C'est ma deuxième chienne après Beauty, elle est arrivée de Nouvelle-Zélande le 28 octobre 2006 à 16 mois. Elle est adorable : grande, gentille, obéissante et d'une couleur hors du commun ! Elle s'est très vite adaptée à sa nouvelle famille et a su se faire adopter de tous tout en sachant se faire respecter !

Rumba est certifiée exempte de dysplasie de la hanche (HDA) ainsi que des coudes (ED0). Elle a eu sa première portée avec Wonder le 2 avril 2007 (5 magnifiques chiots) puis une deuxième le 19 novembre 2008 (8 chiots cette fois, très différents de la première portée !). Sa troisième portée se composa d'une fille unique de Kiway pour changer (née par césarienne le 10 juillet 2009) ! Rumba has got her hip score certificate (HDA) as well as her elbow one (ED0). She had her first litter with Wonder on the 2 april 2007 (5 gorgeous pups) then a second one on the 19 november 2008 (8 pups this time, very different from the fist ones !). Her third litter was an only girl by Kiway for a change (born by C-section on the 10 july 2009) !

En cherchant la relève de Beauty et Wonder, j'ai eu la chance de tomber sur un magnifique chiot tout blanc né le 7 janvier 2006 ! C'est un mâle que j'ai batpisé "Kiway" (réduction de "Milky Way" en rapport à sa couleur, plus facile à dire que son nom de Pedigree "O Wata Tsu Mi" qui signifie "Dieu de la Mer" en japonais...), il est arrivé fin mai 2006 d'Australie accompagné de sa soeur rouquine "Onshu" pour une autre personne. Un grand merci à Janine Ali de l'élevage Shirakhan pour m'avoir gardé un chiot si exceptionnel ! Il est hyper-docile, calme, câlin et joueur, très obéissant mais un peu timide.

While I was looking for the successors of Beauty and Wonder, I had the great luck to find a magnificient all-white pup born on the 7th of January 2006 ! It's a boy I called "Kiway" (shortcut of "Milky Way" because of his colour, easier to say than his Pedigree name "O Wata Tsu Mi" meaning "God of the Sea" in japanese...), he arrived end of may 2006 from Australia with his light red sister "Onshu" for an other person. A great thankyou to Janine Ali from Shirakhan Akitas for holding on such an exceptionnal pup for me ! He's hyper-docile, quiet, cuddly and playful, very obedient but a bit shy.

Kiway s'entendait super bien avec Wonder et Rumba tant qu'il restait à sa place, mais vers l'âge de 9 mois il a commencé à provoquer Wonder en duel, depuis ils ne se supportent plus, il fait donc chambre à part dans un enclos bien à lui avec une copine ou des chiots en sociabilisation ou encore tout autre chienne que je garde à la maison, mais pas de mâle adulte... He used to get on really well with Wonder and Rumba as long as he stepped back before them, but around the age of 9 month-old, he started to provock Wonder to fight, from then on they can't stand each other, so he's got a yard on his own with a girlfriend or some pups in sociabilisation or again any bitch I would keep at home, but not any adult boy...

Kiway est mon "babysitter" attitré : il est parfait avec les chiots ! A la fois doux, joueur et autoritaire, il leur apprend les bonnes manières : présenter des signes de soumission face aux adultes, ne pas faire mal aux autres chiots sous peine de le voir débouler pour calmer le jeu, attendre gentiment qu'il ait fini de manger avant d'avoir accès à sa gamelle, et également comment accueillir chaleureusement les visiteurs que je leur amène ! Kiway is my titled "babysitter" : he's just perfect with the puppies ! Both quiet, playful and bossy, he teached them how to behave : to show submissive signs in front of adults, not to hurt the other pups or he would make irruption to stop the play, to wait quietly for him to finish his meal before accessing food, and also how to welcome the visitors I'm bringing in !

Kiway est plus petit que Wonder car plus trapu, mais pourtant plus lourd : il pèse 43 kg et mange 500 g de croquettes haut de gamme (Virbac Adult qu'il mange très bien sans être goinfre) par jour. Il a ses certificats officiels pour le dépistage de la dysplasie des hanches et des coudes et je suis fière d'avoir confirmation qu'il est aussi bon que Wonder et Rumba avec les excellentes notations HDA (hanches parfaites) et ED0 (coudes parfaits) !  Kiway is smaller than Wonder because more square, but heavier : he weighs 43 kg and eats 500 g of high quality dry food (Virbac Adult that he eats very well without rushing) per day. He has got his hip and elbow score certificates and I'm proud to have the prove that he's as good as Wonder and Rumba with 2 excellent scores : HDA (perfect hips) and ED0 (perfect elbows) !

Kiway a déjà sailli une portée de 6 chiots nés le 24 décembre 2007 avec Bimbo (une fille de Wonder et Beauty) dont ma Classy (mon cadeau de Noël, que j'ai gardée comme reproductrice). Il a également produit 5 chiots avec Lilou (une soeur de Bimbo) nés le 2 février 2009, mais la mise bas s'est mal passée et seules 2 petites ont survécu... Puis il a produit 1 seul chiot avec Chessy (une fille de Wonder et Rumba) : c'est le beau Kinor ("Kiway Junior" !) né le 15 avril 2009 puis il donna à nouveau un chiot unique avec Rumba cette fois : une fille née le 10 juillet 2009. Enfin Chessy a eu 7 magnifiques chiots de lui le 15 septembre 2009... / Kiway already sired one litter of 6 babies born on the 24 december 2007 with Bimbo (a daughter of Wonder and Beauty) one of which is my Classy (my Christmas gift, who I kept as a future broodbitch). He also produced 5 puppies with Lilou (Bimbo's sister) born on the 2 february 2009, but the whelping went wrong and only 2 baby girls survived... Then he produced 1 only pup with Chessy (a daughter of Wonder and Rumba) : that was the gorgeous Kinor ("Kiway Junior" !) born on the 15 april 2009 then he gave again an only pup with Rumba this time : a girl born on the 10 july 2009. Finally, Chessy gave birth to 7 gorgeous pups of him on the 15 september 2009...

Pour Noël 2009, je me résous à confier Kiway à de très bons amis qui sont tombés amoureux de lui et qui avaient la disponibilité qui me manquait pour le voir s'épanouir totalement, en parfaite complicité avec ses nouveaux maîtres. Je serais toujours sa "maman" et je continue de le voir régulièrement comme tous mes bébés, mais je me suis faite à l'idée qu'il est effectivement plus heureux chouchouté comme chien unique de sa nouvelle famille, que "perdu" parmis mes 7 autres chiens auxquels je m'efforce de consacrer autant de temps que possible à chacun d'entre eux... Kiway est désormais le centre de toute leur attention, en permanence avec eux à la maison ou en balade, bref le meilleur que je puisse souhaiter à tous mes bébés... / For Christmas 2009, I accepted to let Kiway go to very good friends of mine who fell in love with him and had the time that I missed to have him totally happy, in perfect harmony with his new owners. I will always be his "mum" and I keep seeing him frequently as all my babies, but I eventually admitted that he is actually happier spoilt as the only dog of the family, than "lost" among my 7 other dogs to whom I do my best to spend enough time with each one of them... Kiway is now the centre of all their care, always with them at home or on hack-outs, in short the best I can wish to all my babies...

Voici mon premier Akita mâle "Wonder" : il est arrivé de Nouvelle-Zélande en même temps que Beauty fin mai 2005 à l'âge de 13 mois juste après avoir décroché son titre de Champion de NZ ! Un grand merci à Karen Bell, de l'élevage Christabell, de m'avoir transmis un jeune chien si prometteur ! Here is my first male Akita "Wonder" : he arrived from New Zealand at the same date as Beauty end of may 2005 at the age of 13 months shortly after he was titled NZ Champion ! A big thankyou to Karen Bell, from Christabell Akitas, for having transmitted such a promising young dog to me ! 

Wonder a été qualifié de "1er Excellent" de sa catégorie (Open mâle) à l'exposition multi-race de la Foire de Bourail le 13 août 2005. Voici ce que Monsieur le juge Médard-Ringuet a dit de lui lors de sa présentation : "Excellent aspect général, superbe tête bien masquée, excellent articulé avec dentition complète, excellente ossature et aplomb du pied, excellentes proportions hauteur-largeur-profondeur, excellent port de fouet, mouvement conventionnel, dos bien tendu, superbe caractère pour un Akita Américain." Wonder has been qualified "1st Excellent" of his class (open male) at the multi-breed dog show of Bourail on August the 13th 2005. Following is what the judge Mr Médard-Ringuet said about him when showed : "Excellent general appearance, beautiful masked head, excellent and complete adult teeth, excellent bone and foot angulation, excellent height-width-depth proportions, excellent tail carriage, conventionnal movement, good straight backline, wonderful temperament for an American Akita."

Wonder a également obtenu le titre de "Meilleur de Race" le 23 avril 2006 à Nouméa sous le juge multirace Maurice Hermel. Wonder est un gros nounours très câlin, envahissant et curieux. Adorable avec les humains mais autoritaire vis-à-vis des enfants (il a horreur des enfants agités et sait leur faire peur pour calmer le jeu !), il sait contrôler sa force et être à l'écoute. A la fois très obéissant et très intelligent, il sait ruser pour arriver à ses fins il ne faut donc pas le sous-estimer (par exemple il a compri tout seul comment ouvrir les portes et même les baies vitrées, donc il faut systématiquement fermer à clé derrière lui) ! Très protecteur et territorial, il ne laisse entrer personne lorsqu'on est absent (c'est un aboyeur : c'est le premier et souvent le seul de ma meute qui donne de la voix à la moindre alerte) mais accueille chaleureusement nos visiteurs quand je suis là pour lui montrer qu'ils sont les bienvenus ! Très dominant, il cherche systématiquement la bagarre avec les chiens qu'il ne connait pas : il provoque les gros chiens pour leur montrer qu'il est le plus fort et chasse les petits chiens comme des proies ! Je le promène donc toujours en laisse pour arrêter ses élans machos ! Il pèse à peine 40 kg et mange péniblement ses 500 g de croquettes haut de gamme (Virbac Junior pour tenter de le faire grossir) par jour divisés en deux repas, matin et soir. C'est un délicat, il mange très lentement (il risque pas de se faire empoisonner lui !) et entre 1 an et 3 ans il lui arrivait souvent de bouder ses croquettes. Alors je rusais en ajoutant "du goût" tel que du riz avec de la sauce de cuisson, ou un oeuf, du thon ou du fromage, des morceaux de viande ou de poulet rôti (il fallait varier car Monsieur se lassait rapidement) pour qu'il daigne y toucher ! J'ai essayé pas mal de croquettes et pâtées de différentes marques qu'il aimait pendant un certain temps, mais les pâtées lui donnaient la diarrhée et les croquettes "pas chères" rendaient son poil sec et fragile, c'est vraiment les croquettes haut de gamme (Virbac, Royal Canin...) qui lui réussissent le mieux : son poil est brillant et ses crottes fermes, comme quoi, le prix est vraiment gage de qualité ! Et maintenant il mange vraiment bien sans se plus se faire prier, il commence enfin à prendre un peu de poids (il pesait 37-38 kg alors qu'il pourrait en faire 50 avec son gabarit !)... Du coup, j'ai mis mes quatre chats Kanis, Chaz, Dora et Bagheera (avec qui mes chiens s'entendent très bien) aux croquettes haut de gamme aussi car, étant stérilisés, ils commençaient à se ramollir et prendre du ventre : ils sont maintenant plus sveltes et dynamiques que jamais !

Wonder is a big teddy bear very cuddly, invading and out-going. Lovely with humans but impatient with children (he hates excited kids and scared them to calm them down !), he knows how to behave himself and is a real good listener. Being both very obedient and very intelligent, he can be very clever to get what he wants, so we should never under-estimate him (for example, he managed to understand how to open doors and even windows by himself, so we must always key lock behind him) ! Very protector and territorial, he never allows anyone to come in where nobody's home (he's the first and often the only one of my dogs to bark as the very first alarm), but dearly welcomes our visitors when I'm home to show him they are actually welcome ! Very dominant, he always seek the fight with dogs he doesn't know : he provokes the big ones to show how strong he is and hunt the small ones as if they were preys ! Therefore I always take him out on leash to stop his macho manners ! He weighs barely 40 kg and hardly eats 500 g of high quality dry food (Virbac Junior to try and put weight on him) a day divided in two meals, morning and evening. He is a slow eater and very picky (no chance to be poisoned this one !) and between 1 and 3 year-old he had to be encouraged to finish his plate : he would often go off his feed so I used to add "taste" like rice with cooking oil, or tuna, egg or cheese, piece of meat or cooked chicken (that must change or Mister get bored) so that he would eventually go back to eat ! I did try several dry and canned foods of different brands he liked to eat but canned food would give him diarrhea and cheap dry food would make his coat dry and fragile, only high quality dry foods (Virbac, Royal Canin, etc...) is actually the best for him: his coat is shiny and his droppings firm. As far as I'm concerned, price is really standing for quality ! And now he does eat it really well and starts at last to put on weight (he was weighing 37-38 kg whereas he could be 50 with his size !)... Therefore I also put my four cats Kanis, Chaz, Dora and Bagheera (with whom my dogs get along very well) on high quality dry food as, being neutered, they started to be lazy and have a big belly, and now they're more fit and dynamic than ever !

Il vit dans un parc en couple avec Rumba ou toute autre chienne ou chiot (jamais avec un mâle adulte !) et a déjà eu une portée de 8 chiots avec Beauty le 28 janvier 2006, puis une portée de 5 avec Rumba le 2 avril 2007 et une nouvelle portée de 8 chiots avec Rumba le 19 novembre 2008... Wonder has got his hip and elbow score certificate (Score HDA and ED0). He lives in a yard with Rumba or any other bitch or pup (never with an adult dog !) and he already sired a litter of 8 pups with Beauty on the 28 january 2006, then a litter of 5 with Rumba on the 2 april 2007 and another litter of 8 puppies with Rumba on the 19 november 2008...

Voici ma toute première chienne Akita Américain: "Beauty", elle est arrivée fin mai 2005 d'Australie à l'âge de 4 ans, après avoir eu sa première portée en novembre 2004. Un grand merci à Vicki Schneider, de l'élevage Tanoshii, de me l'avoir envoyée : c'est un rêve qui se réalise ! Elle est née en Tasmanie à l'élevage Ryerson, où elle a obtenu son titre de Championne (vous la verrez en bas de la page "Champions" sur le site de l'élevage Ryerson). Here is my very first American Akita bitch: "Beauty", she arrived from Australia late may 2005 at the age of 4 year-old after having had her first litter in november 2004. A big thankyou to Vicki Schneider, from Tanoshii Akitas, for sending her to me : it's a dream becoming true ! She was born in Tasmania at Ryerson Akitas, where she obtained her Champion title (you will see her at the bottom of the "Champions" page on the Ryerson Akitas website).

Beauty a été qualifiée "1ère Excellente" de sa catégorie (Open femelle) à l'exposition multi-race de la Foire de Bourail le 13 août 2005. Beauty était une adorable grosse mère, toute douce et hyper-gentille, méfiante envers les enfants et très dominante avec les autres chiens. Très chasseuse, elle ne pouvait pas s'empêcher de courser les chats et les oiseaux ! Elle pesait 43 kg et mangeait 400 g de croquettes "Royal Canin" par jour divisés en deux repas, matin et soir. Beauty était une gloutone et ne faisait qu'une bouchée de sa gamelle malgré mes tentatives pour la freiner (ajoût d'eau, isolement dans un coin calme...) elle engloutissait tout et n'importe quoi, il ne fallait rien laisser traîner à sa portée ! Jusqu'au triste jour de fin juillet 2006 où, à l'âge de 5 ans et demi, elle fut victime d'une dilatation-torsion de l'estomac qui l'emporta... Beauty was such a lovely big girl, so sweet and super-gentle, suspecting with children and very dominant with other dogs. Hunter first, she couldn't help running after cats and birds ! She weighed 43 kg and ate 400 g of "Royal Canin" dry food a day, divided in 2 meals morning and evening. Beauty was a glutton and ate her whole plate in one mouthful despite of my trials to slower her down (addition of water, isolation in a quiet area...) she could gulp everything, we had to be careful not to leave anyhing eatable around her ! Until that sad day late july 2006 when, at the age of 5 and a half year-old, she was struke by a severe bloat that killed her...   

Tous les grands chiens sont prédisposés à ce genre de problème surtout quand ils se jètent sur leur nourriture comme Beauty... Alors je prenais des précautions comme de leur donner à manger matin et soir pour ne pas qu'ils ingèrent un trop gros volume d'un coup, rajouter un peu d'eau dans les croquettes pour limiter la sensation de soif après manger et qu'ils ne se gonflent pas d'eau, ainsi que de les garder au calme après manger pour ne pas qu'ils s'agitent l'estomac plein, mais apparemment ça n'a pas suffit... C'est rare et imprévisible : tout se passe bien jusqu'au jour où certaines conditions particulières sont réunies pour que l'estomac se mette soudain à accumuler du gaz, se dilater et pour finir basculer et se vriller aux extrémités, comprimant toute la digestion et la circulation sanguine de l'abdomen... Si l'estomac n'est pas rapidement remis en place (dans les 2h suivant le ballonnement), le chien est condamné... D'où la nécessité de prendre des précautions pour les chiens à risque (en particulier les grands chiens style Berger Allemand, Boxer, Doberman, Danois... et d'un certain âge, en général 5-8 ans, curieusement ça n'arrive pas aux jeunes chiens qui sont pourtant plus foufous...) et s'assurer que tout va bien dans les 2h suivant le repas du soir avant d'aller se coucher...

Every big dog can have that kind of problem, especially when they rush onto their food like Beauty... So I was careful to feed them morning and evening to reduce the food volume at each meal, add a little water in their meal to reduce their thirst after eating and therefore avoid that they get a belly swollen with water, in addition to keep them quiet after eating so that they don't jump around with a full stomach, but apparently it wasn't enough... It's seldom and unpredictable : everything goes well until one day where peculiar conditions are gathered leading the stomach to bloat with gaz and eventually turn around itself, twisting each end, jamming the digestion and blood traffic of the abdomen... If the stomach is not put back in place quickly (in the 2hr following the bloat), the dog is condemned... Hence the need to be careful with those dogs inclined to bloat (especially great dogs like the German Shepherd, Boxer, Dobermann, Great Dane... and older ones, usually of 5-8 year-old, surprisingly don't happen to younger dogs who are however more foolish) and make sure everything is alright in the 2hr following the evening meal before going to bed...
