Ca y'est ! Les chiots de Rumba et Wonder sont nés lundi 2 avril entre 11h et 14h30 ! C'est la première portée de Rumba et elle a fait un sans faute en donnant naissance sans aide à 5 magnifiques chiots pétillants de vie ! Il y a 2 mâles et 3 femelles : l'une des femelles est toute blanche avec juste la tête marron-gris, un gros nez blanc et un liseret qui remonte jusque sur le cou, l'un des mâles est panaché marron-gris et blanc comme Wonder avec une tache blanche sur le nez, et les trois autres chiots sont panachés noirs et blancs avec la tête toute noire comme Rumba ! 

 

 

Here they are ! Rumba and Wonder's pups are born on monday the 2nd of april between 11am and 2.30pm ! It's Rumba's very first litter and she did such a great job giving birth without help to 5 beautiful and healthy pups ! There are 2 boys and 3 girls : one of the girls is all white with only the head being grey-brown, a big white nose and a blaze going all the way up the neck, one of the boys is brown-grey and white pinto just like Wonder with a white patch on the nose, and the three other pups are black and white pintos with a black head like Rumba's !

   

Kiway vient de finir sa mue : il est tout fin ! Lors de la mue, je brosse 2 ou 3 fois par jour pour aider à enlever la vieille fourrure et laisser la place à la nouvelle et je remplis chaque fois un pochon plein de poils ! De quoi faire des coussins ! Les chiots ont 3 semaines et commencent à marcher et manger des croquettes... Kiway just finished moulting : he's so thin now ! During moulting time, I brush them 2 or 3 times per day to help pull the old coat away and make room for the new one and each time I can fill a full plastic bag of hair ! There's matter to make cuffins ! The pups are now 3 week-old and start to walk and eat dry food...

   

   

A 1 mois, les chiots sont plus craquants que jamais ! De vraies petites peluches ! Ils sont tous les 5 magnifiques, bien proportionnés et sans fautes majeures (pas de nez rose, pas de poils longs...) : j'en ai de la chance ! En plus Rumba tient bien le coup : elle ne perd pas de poids, ni ses poils, ni le moral (elle joue avec Wonder et ses chiots) alors que Beauty l'année dernière était une vraie loque ! Ce doit être l'âge qui fait la différence car elles ont toutes deux eu la même alimentation et les mêmes soins... Pourtant Beauty n'avait que 5 ans, c'est pas si vieux, et Rumba en a à peine 2, mais les chiots de Rumba sont nettement plus gros que ceux de Beauty qui en avait pourtant le même nombre, comme quoi il vaut mieux faire des portées aux jeunes chiennes et laisser les plus âgées en paix...

   

At 1 month-old, the puppies are cuter than ever ! Bouncing fluffy teddy bears ! They are all 5 stunning, good in proportions and without major faults (no pink nose nor long coats...) : how lucky is that ! Furthermore, Rumba is getting along really well : she's not losing weight, neither her coat nor her mood (she often plays with Wonder and the pups) whereas Beauty last year were such a poor thing ! Must be the age making the difference as they're both fed the same feed and the same care... However Beauty was only 5 year-old, that's not that old, and Rumba's just 2, but Rumba's pups are much bigger than Beauty's who had just the same number, so that's much better to breed younger bitches rather than older ones...

 

Tous les matins c'est la grande défoule dans le paddock des chevaux : Rumba et Wonder sont lâchés le temps que je m'occupe des chevaux, puis c'est au tour de Kiway et Lilou (je la garde en pension 2 semaines). Les juments ont l'habitude et ne bronchent pas devant leurs pitreries, mais je surveille quand même : un accident est si vite arrivé... Every morning there's the great running out in the horses paddock : Rumba and Wonder are let free while I'm feeding the horses, then it's Kiway and Lilou's turn (I'm boarding Lilou for 2 weeks). The mares are used to their foolishness and don't react, but I keep a close eye on them anyway : accidents happen so quickly...

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Les chiots grandissent à vue d’œil : ils sont énormes ! Kiway joue avec eux désormais, sous surveillance, il est très doux : c’est leur baby-sitter ! Je commence à les sevrer en douceur : ils restent avec Kiway la journée et retournent auprès de leur mère pour la nuit. Kiway a déjà une préférence pour la petite Cristal : ils jouent le plus souvent ensemble ! Ca tombe bien : c'est elle que je veux garder pour lui ! Tous les autres chiots sont aussi réservés... The pups are growing fast : they're huge ! Kiway is playing with them now, under control, he's very sweet : he's their nanny ! I'm gradually weaning them : they stay with Kiway all-day and go back to their mother at night. Kiway is already falling in love with Cristal : they're always playing together ! That's just right : she's the one I want to keep for him ! All the other pups are spoken for too...

 

   

   

Tout le monde craque pour ces grosses peluches : les gens accourent pour venir les voir ! C’est parfait pour leur sociabilisation : il faut qu’ils soient en contact avec un maximum de gens pour être à l’aise avec tout le monde… Everybody fall in love for these cute fury balls : people just run from everywhere to come and see them ! It's perfect for their socialisation : they must be in contact with lots of different people to be nice and steady with everyone...

   

 

Ils ont fait fureur à l’exposition de Nouméa : leurs parents aussi d’ailleurs ! Wonder est arrivé Meilleur Akita Mâle puis Meilleur de Race devant ses filles Bonnie (1ère Akita Femelle) et Lilou (3^e Akita Femelle) et 2^e Best In Show derrière un Berger Allemand ! Pour finir en beauté, Wonder et Rumba ont eu le prix du Meilleur Couple… They had such a great time at he Noumea Show : their parents too ! Wonder went Best of Male Akita, won Best of Breed before his daughters Bonnie (First Female Akita) and Lilou (Third Female Akita) and ended 2nd Best In Show behind a German Shepherd ! To end in beauty, Wonder and Rumba won Best Couple of the Show... 

     

 

 

 

   

 

Entre 2 et 3 mois, les chiots sont totalement sevrés et je les sors un maximum pour les habituer à tout avant qu’ils ne s’en aillent dans leurs nouvelles familles : je les emmène tous les jours en voiture à la clinique vétérinaire où je travaille et ils restent avec moi tranquilles dans leur parc, toujours avec Kiway le baby-sitter pour leur montrer l’exemple ! Puis lors de ma pause, je les sors en laisse un par un sur le bord de la route et à la sortie du supermarché d’à-côté, ainsi ils n’ont peur de rien ! Et ils ont un succès fou auprès des passants… Between 2 and 3 month-old, the pups are totally weaned and I'm taking them out a lot to get them used to everything before they go to their new homes : I'm bringing them all by car to the vet's where I work and they stay there nice and quiet in their crate, always with Kiway as their nanny to show how to behave ! Then at my break, I'm taking them out one by one with a leash for a walk beside the road and out the supermarket nearby, so they're not afraid of anything ! And they're making everyone stop by...

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wonder et Rumba peuvent enfin souffler ! Wonder ne pouvait plus les voir : ils étaient toujours à l'embêter et il leur grognait dessus sans arrêt ! Il adore quand je l'emmène prendre l'air à Tontouta où j'entraîne notre trotteuse Nanou (avec laquelle je m'éclate en course : c'est une jument vraiment sympa et elle fait de très belles courses)... Quant à Rumba, elle a bien repris du poil de la bête : elle est toute fine mais est à nouveau pleine d'énergie (elle a eu un gros coup de fatigue quand les chiots avaient entre 6 et 8 semaines). Wonder and Rumba can at last have a break ! Wonder couldn't stand them anymore : they were always after him and he wouldn't stop growling at them ! He just loves when I take him out to Tontouta where I'm training our French Trotter Nanou (with whom I'm having great fun when racing : she's such a nice mare and is racing really well)... As for Rumba, she bounces back great : she's all thin but has got her energy back (she had such a hard time when the pups were between 6 and 8 week-old).
